The musical movement called Jovem Guarda appeared in 1965 as a TV program, aiming entertainment on Sunday afternoons. It started with the Federação Paulista de Futebol's (Soccer Paulista Federation) prohibition for live telecastings of football matches. The TV Record was suddenly faced with a gap in their program schedule. At 4:30 pm on August 22th, 1965, a Sunday, for the first time the Jovem Guarda program was transmitted alive, directly from the TV Record's auditorium, at Rua da Consolação, 2036, São Paulo. The last program with Roberto Carlos took place on January 17, 1968. The movement was heavily influenced by The Platters, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Bill Halley and his Comets, Carl Perkins, The Coasters, Fats Domino, Gene Vicent, Bobby Darin, The Beatles, The Mamas & Papas, The Shadows, The Venturies, among others.
