AMAZONICS LEGENDS... AND SO IT IS TILL TODAY

Illustrations by Tati Móes

Salesiana Publishing House, São Paulo , 2006

Ten legends from Amazonic indian’s and local people oral tradition. Each tale has a glossary with words in “tupi” (indian language used in Brazil till the eighteen century), among other typical words. Poetic and good humoured versions of the original legends, that respect the consulted sources. All tales are adapted to children from 6 years old on.

The legends tell the adventures of Curupira, the Boto (kind of a dolphin, famous in Amazônia for his flerts with human young ladies), besides the myths of the origin of the Mandioca (Manioc), the Guaraná, the Fire, among others. Get to know the unbelievable story of Cobra Norato (Norato Snake) and also how the first night appeared in the world!
