It was a long and hard work to select the most important albums from 1956 up 1994 (Vinyl Record Long Play age) of Brazilian Music. It is nearly impossible to create a list of ONLY 20 titles (our initial goal). But after many complaints by the people invited to select it, we have to double to Top 40 selected albums released on Vinyl record in Brazil.
Also we had, as orientation, not to give any direction or privilege any music style. We were very careful in choosing different people in terms of taste and age. So a great amount of genres and Brazilian musical styles should be contemplated: from sophisticated Bossa Jazz to pop "Brega"; passing through Samba, Tropicalia, Frevo, Brazilian Groove Soul, Brazilian Experimental Music, Minas & Northeastern music, folklore roots, folk music, modern Maracatu, and much more...
We were in touch with circa of 50 people related to music (musicians, critics, writers, music specialists, journalists, music lovers and big record's collectors). Finally this list was carefully created. It was quite a difficult job for the BRAZILian CULTure staff to organize and made a final choice among hundreds of listings. It does not necessarily reflects our opinion but it certainly is a fantastic selection. The result is the listing bellow. We hope you enjoy it as we did:
The Brazil's top 40 greatest albums of Brazilian Music released on LP (FROM 1956 UP TO 1994)
